New on the Stage Door Pop imprint is the debut CD release of the
Crossroads Wedding Party album. Originally issued by Pye Records in 1975, the album coincided with the
Crossroads wedding of Meg Richardson (Noele Gordon) to Hugh Mortimer
(John Bentley), the long running soap opera's highest rated episode.
The album opens with the classic Tony Hatch penned 'Crossroads Theme' (presented here in stereo), followed by highlights from the wedding service and blessing.
Stephanie De Sykes, who played singer Holly Brown, features with the songs
'We'll Find Our Day' (written by Simon May and originally included in his 1973 musical
'Smike'), performed by Holly Brown at the wedding reception as a gift to the newlyweds. Stephanie also performs the original song
'It's Been a Long Long Day'.
Members of the 'Crossroads' cast perform a handful of sing-a-long medleys including the wedding party favourites
'I Can't Give You Anything But Love', 'Side by Side' and 'Waiting at the
Church'. The show's stars Noele Gordon and John Bentley each offer a solo with Noele singing
'The Heather on the Hill' from 'Brigadoon' (Noele starred in the Original 1949 London production) and John
'The Girl That I Marry' from 'Annie Get Your Gun'.
Digitally remastered from the original master tapes, the CD release includes as bonus tracks 'Benny's Theme (Only Time Will
Tell)', the 1978 single by long serving 'Crossroads' cast member
Paul Henry. Written by Simon May, 'Benny's Theme' is featured as a vocal and instrumental version by The Mayson Glen Orchestra.
The 'Crossroads Wedding Party' is licensed courtesy of BMG Rights Management (UK) Ltd. and is a limited edition pressing of 500 units only.
