Hermione Gingold is best known for her
iconic performances in the films 'Gigi', 'The Music Man' and 'A Little Night Music' - however her career originated in London revues of the 30s and 40s. Her popular appearances in revue created a
vast back catalogue of original witty and humorous songs which became part of
Gingold's signature repertoire.
finding success in the United States , Hermione returned to London in 1953 to perform at the
renowned Cafe De Paris. During Gingold's cabaret season, her performance was
recorded at the venue (without an audience), and preserved for posterity.
Accompanied by Clay Ashdown at piano, Gingold's programme included many of the
songs she'd originated in revue. This live performance remained unreleased until
first issued in 2008.
supplement the Cafe De Paris recording, Stage Door have included a generous
selection of bonus tracks including two sides of a novelty single recorded in
1953 with Gilbert Harding and selections from Gingold's 1955 album La
